Welcome to Feel Good Food! For those of us trying to wade our way through the vast amount of emerging pains, advertising claims and activist campaigns, this blog’s for you.
Making “sound” food choices seems to be increasingly difficult these days. The way I see it, what we put in our mouths every day is like casting a vote – in an election where no one can abstain. So why not be an informed voter? Many of us are trying, and it doesn’t take long for the questions to flood in: Local? Organic? Fair trade? The environment? The economy? And what about my budget? I hear ya. It’s these quandaries, and more, which brought me to writing this blog. In my ongoing journey to eat with ethics in mind, I’m learning a lot. And like food, knowledge is meant to be shared.
Now, as many of us know all too well, the story of food doesn’t end in our mouths. It still has about 30 feet to go. I started learning that the hard way about four years ago when I mysteriously developed a list of food sensitivities (see sidebar) which has grown even longer since. The rude awakening of learning that what I put into my body is deeply connected to my health has led me down a path I would never have imagined myself on say, six years ago, when I was happily enjoying spoonfuls of chocolate chip cookie dough, and vegetables were the food group that had to be over-boiled and over-buttered for me to consider consuming them.
I want this blog to be a place for me to write about all aspects of my passion for food. Here you’ll find short articles I write on the ethical implications of our food choices (stuff I’ve dealt with in the past or am encountering for the first time), my thoughts on emerging issues pertaining to food, and of course, a healthy dose of “Emily-friendly” recipes (as I like to call them). Also, I’m hoping to make this a resource for others living in the Toronto area, since I’ve had some practice navigating the local ethical eating scene on a sensitive stomach.
So here I am, trying to get my body back in order while still giving a damn about the world I live in. Maybe you’re in the same boat and want to share the ride, or maybe you’re interested in one side more than the other. Either way, I hope my blog will help you in your quest to make food choices that feel good to the body and the mind.

Emily this blog is fantastic. Well written, thoughtful, interesting, and well-rounded. So inspiring as I try to make sense of my new blog and what personality it will take on. You have managed to incorporate all of the themes that I would like to touch on too in an organized and approachable way! Well done, looking forward to my many visits here.
Let me know if you’d like to collaborate or become guest writers for one another.
Big hug! Zara
