Yikes. I realize last time I posted I promised an end to my blog strike. That was back in May and it’s now 2 months later. What happened? Well part of my excuse is that I am working on getting a new blog site set up that is my own domain, complete with a new design. So a lot of my allocated blogging time has been going to that. But a big part of my absence was because of a real absence – I spent the month of June in rural Quebec helping run an organic agriculture internship at a meditation retreat centre! Days were perfectly balanced between yoga, meditation, and gardening, with a healthy dose of singing and dancing most evenings. I was spoiled with fantastic cooking every day – I didn’t have to cook for myself once, though I did sneak into the kitchen to bake a cake one night. It felt more like summer camp than work.
Here’s a snapshot of my month in pictures:

- mock meditation…I wish I had the pic where we were posing as pirates…

- Frozen fruit through a juicer = raw vegan ice cream!

- designing a permaculture garden (yes, sometimes we worked too!)

- Shoveling manure + head nets for the black flies
There is a second internship session happening in August too so if you are interested in coming, check out www.deepeningroots.org for more info.
No blog post would be complete without a recipe! I made a cake for one of the interns’ birthdays. It was a variation on the carrot loaf I did a while back, with a raw almond-cream icing for extra flare. Check out the recipe here/above. It was fantastique!
