Beginning at the end of June, I embarked on what will be a four month long bike trip to the east coast of Canada and the Northeast United States visiting, learning from, and documenting the many innovative food projects that are making waves in the food movement. I’m from Toronto, where I am an activist and educator around sustainable food systems and food sovereignty. My recent work at non-profit organizations FoodShare and Local Food Plus has inspired me to forge connections and foster educational exchange with the many faces of the food movement beyond my city. Thus, the Feel Good Food Bike Tour was born!

And so, powered by my (hopefully) trusty bike and my own two feet, I will be visiting organic farms, intentional communities, food security projects, education centres, schools, food businesses and kitchens of all shapes and sizes as a way to broaden my understand of how to use food as a means to create positive social change.

With so much progress happening in our backyards, I am drawn to document these projects so that communities can learn from each other no matter where they are. Throughout my travels I will be profiling the people and places I visit here on my website and will be writing for several other online publications.

Once I return to Toronto, I plan to share my experiences and insights with Toronto’s food community as a way to expand the reach of our respective communities. Similarly, I hope to share as much as I know with the folks I visit about the models for change that are active in Toronto and share my personal experiences of food education that I have gained through my work and volunteer efforts here.
